Johor DT confirmed the appointment of Ulisses Morais as their new head coach yesterday, in a bid to revive their fortunes in the Malaysia Super League this year, besides reinforcing their long-term aspirations in 2018.
Little is known of Morais’ coaching style as he spent his entire coaching career in Portugal prior to this. In fact, he was even the boss of SC Beira Mar, when Nazmi Faiz signed with them back in 2012.
We’ve attached a clip of Morais handing Nazmi is unofficial debut for the Beira Mar senior team, during a friendly match against Real Valladolid in June 2012. As Nazmi walks towards the touchline, you will notice Morais providing instructions to another Beira Mar player, on top of the screen.
Unfortunately, Nazmi’s Beira Mar stint didn’t last too long and he returned to Malaysia to sign for PKNS FC in 2013. After spending a season there, Nazmi moved to Selangor, where he spent three seasons. He signed for Johor DT this year and has now been reunited with Morais, who instantly recognized him at the training ground yesterday.
What are your thoughts on this appointment? Is he the right man to revive JDT’s fortunes?
