Former JDT player wants to honour the club in Italy

Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) will be making its mark in Italy very soon.

JDT’s former import player Simone Del Nero has announced plans to build his own football academy in Carrara, a city in central Italy.

The football academy will bear the logo of Johor Darul Ta’zim FC, as a symbolic reference to Del Nero’s time in Johor.

The 35-year-old Italian signed with JDT back in 2013, where he only lasted half a season due injuries and fitness problems. At the end of the 2013, he left JDT to join Serie D club Massese.

Although he only spent a short time with the Southern Tigers, his experience at the club had a lasting impression on him.

The Italian midfielder recently came back to visit his former club and he was impressed by the changes and tremendous improvement of club facilities.

According to him, the club has come a long way since his days when “there was only an ambulance, a washroom and a pipe to clean up after training.”

Del Nero also added that JDT’s fast development is on the right track to be known around the world.
