News about Karl-Heinz Weigang’s passing sent shockwaves nationwide, with football players and fans flooding social media with tribute photos and messages for the coach.
The former Perak FA and national team coach passed away following a heart attack, as confirmed by Perak FA deputy president Shahrul Zaman Yahya on Tuesday.
Weigang rose to become a revered figure amongst Malaysian football fans and players for his straight-forward, no-nonsense persona.
The German also boasts an extensive coaching track record, with over 50 years of coaching experience, ranging from teams in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Ghana, and more.
His most notable achievement with Malaysia is definitely leading the Malaysia national football team to the 1980 Olympic Games.
His last stint as a coach was with Perak FA, where he guided the Bos Gaurus to a 2-1 win over reigning Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim.
Here’s a beautiful tribute poem for the legend, penned by our friends at Padang Bola Sepak, entitled “Thank you Weigang”.
Rest in peace, coach, you will never be forgotten.
