Melaka United just waiting on Eduardo Almeida to say “yes”

Melaka United have set their sights on Eduardo Almeida to potentially replace Eric Williams’ position as head coach.

According to Melaka United’s team manager Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, the Portuguese coach has essentially agreed to come over to Melaka to visit the club and meet the officials.

“We’re looking to sign him as soon as possible, we’re just waiting for him to say yes.” Sinar Harian quoted Datuk Yusoff Mahadi as saying.

Melaka United’s assistant coach, G. Selvamohan, will be tasked to assist Almeida upon arrival; to explain to him the current condition of the club, what needs to be improved, and to introduce Almeida to all the players.

“We’re counting on Almeida to improve the performance of the club, to take it to the next, better, level. Selvamohan will be assisting him in terms of understanding Melaka United’s style and what needs to be done improved at the club.” he added.

Datuk Yusoff Mahadi also hopes that Almeida will get along well with the players and other coaching staffs at Melaka United.

Eduardo Almeida is no stanger to Malaysian football, as he has coached T-Team back in 2013 until 2014. Apart from that, Almeida also boasts a vast coaching experience, having coached clubs in Hong Kong, Portugal, Tanzania, and Hungary.

Melaka United just recently terminated their contract with former head coach, Eric Williams, due to the club’s dismal performance. They are currently in the second last position on the Super League table, having accumulated only 11 points after 13 games.

Aside from signing a new coach, Melaka United have also signed eight new players to bolster their squad, namely Nur Hakim Isa (Perak FA), Sivanesan (PKNS FC), Nicholas Swirad (JDT II), Fandi Othman (JDT II), Azinee Taib (JDT II), Jasmin Mecinović (Pellister FC), Felipe Almeida De Souza (Oeste FC), and Marko Simic (Negeri Sembilan FA).
