“There are things death cannot touch”
The one and only Karl-Heinz Weigang has reportedly passed away in Germany today after suffering a heart attack. The news was confirmed by Perak FA deputy president Shahrul Zaman Yahya.
Weigang wide widely recognized as an undisputed football nomad, having coached in multiple regions across the world, including Africa and Asia. But he is famously known for guiding Malaysia into the 1980 Olympic Games, which inspired Ola Bola – a widely acclaimed local film that was loosely based on Weigang and his Tigers.
He also had multiple coaching stints with local teams in Malaysia, including three stints with Perak FA. His most recent stint with The Bos Gaurus ended in February 2017 after Weigang agreed to mutually terminate his contract, despite masterminding a 2-1 win over Johor DT only a week prior to that.
With deep condolences and sorrow, I would like to inform our long staying guest Mr Karl Heinz Weigang passed away in Germany this morning. pic.twitter.com/T78nWainYd
