The national velodrome in Nilai bustling with activities after the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, said our Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin at the official launch of the national velodrome.
Amongst those present at the launch were world keirin champion, Azizulhasni Awang, along with other national cyclists like Ng Joo Ngan, M. Kumaresan, Rosman Alwi, and Josiah Ng.
According to the minister, the national velodrome will not be a white elephant after the SEA Games are over. Instead, he will make sure that the velodrome is packed with interesting programs and activities for all biking enthusiasts.
Furthermore, the ministry is also planning to develop the area surrounding the national velodrome to house a new sports complex so training programs can be shifted there.
“This world class velodrome in Nilai was built as the country wants to produce more world class cycling champions.” NST quoted the minister as saying.
“We will move the track cycling programs over to Nilai, including the Junior Cycling Malaysia (JCM) program.”
“We will make sure to have either tournaments or trainings there every week. In fact, we will even have an open day so the public can experience the national velodrome under supervision.” the minister assured.
The minister further elaborated that other sports like boxing, sepak takraw, and archery will be shifted to Nilai as well.
The Nilai national velodrome will be the official venue for all cycling events at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, which will be happening from August 19 until august 31st.
