Selangor head coach P. Maniam has admitted that he was extremely surprised at Amri Yahyah’s decision to reunite with his former club during the mid-season transfer window.
The 36 year-old attacking player spent the first half of this season playing for Melaka United after parting ways with Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) at the end of the last season, however, his half a season with The Mousedeers so far has been underwhelming to say the least.
P. Maniam has defended the club’s decision to allow the return of the veteran forward.
“I was honestly surprised by Amri’s decision to return,” he said as quoted by Goal Malaysia.
“However, he is a quality player and I believe he has the experience and leadership skills to help and guide the team. For now, he needs to prove himself to me and the team.
Amri Yahyah made his second debut for Selangor during a 1-1 draw against Malaysia Premier League (MPL) side MISC-MIFA yesterday, as he assisted Forkey Doe to score the equalizer.
P. Maniam will be delighted with the return of Andik Vermansyah as well, after the Indonesian wizard was sidelined with an injury since the end of the last year.
“We will play a 3-4-3 formation and Andik and Amri will be perfect for it,” he concluded.
