Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) vice captain Aidil Zafuan wants nothing less than a win when his side faces Magwe FC in the final AFC Cup Group F match at the Larkin Stadium tonight.
The 30 year-old defender is expected to wear the captain’s armband tonight, as skipper Safiq Rahim was rumoured to be rested by head coach Benjamin Mora. Despite almost certainly qualifying for the knockout stages, Aidil Zafuan wants his team to gain all three points to fight for top spot in hopes that Global FC drops points against Boeung Ket Angkor.
Aidil Zafuan has been missing for most of the matches this season after suffering an injury against Kedah in the Charity Shield at the Larkin Stadium in the opening game of the season.
“I am feeling much more fitter now and the much-needed two-day rest right after the Penang match has really helped cope with my recovery,” he said as quoted by Harian.
“The match against Magwe FC is extremely important because a win will guarantee us qualification to the next round, considering the new format of the AFC Cup this season.
“We are playing at home and will need to be fully focused to gain all points,” he concluded.
Aidil Zafuan wants The Southern Tigers to clinch the AFC Cup title and the Malaysia Super League (MSL) title after failing to defend the FA Cup and Charity Shield this season.
