The Chinese Super League (CSL) have grown to be a force to be feared around the world in recent years and they are expected to continue growing even more by introducing an elite member of world football within the ranks of their league in the next few months.
The likes of Carlos Tevez, Oscar, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Hulk, Ramires, Jackson Martinez, Axel Witsel, Alexandre Pato, Paulinho and Alex Texeira left their comfortable lives back home and decided that the next challenge was to conquer one of the biggest countries in the world.
We all know that Gus Poyet, who was a former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur player, is currently managing Shanghai Shenhua after taking over Gregorio Manzano five months ago. He is looking to bolster his squad by reuniting with one of his former teammates at Chelsea.
There have been rumours that Chelsea captain John Terry is looking to ply his trade in China after confirming that this is his last season with the London club, after 22 years with them.
However, there has been some keen interest from clubs in the Major League Soccer (MLS).
“This is an excellent opportunity for John and Shanghai,” Gus said as quoted by Utusan.
“I hope he makes the right choice by joining us here in China to win more trophies.”
Gus Poyet must let one of his players go in order to accommodate the arrival of John Terry, and the options are Carlos Tevez, Fredy Guarin, Giovanni Moreno and Obafemi Martins.
John Terry has appeared 714 times for Chelsea and won 14 trophies with them, and could potentially win two more trophies (league and FA Cup) before the end of the season.
