For years, Malaysian football’s lack of identity and excitement was deemed to be its own demon but there appears to be an individual, whose social media persona seems capable of rescuing even the most condemned group of people on earth from the brink of eternal abyss. After all, he claims to have once been the leader of one of the finest empires in human history!
If you’ve followed Kedah’s Khairul Helmi on Instagram, I presume you’re attending Memes Anonymous by now? If you’re not following him yet, then I suggest you proceed with every bit of caution.
He first caught my attention when it was announced that he would be replacing Kratos as the proverbial face of ‘God of War’. Imagine the look on Zeus’ face? Priceless.
Then I decided to do a little scrolling on his profile and discovered that he once co-worked on a track alongside Kendrick Lamar. DAMN!
But as I eventually discovered, that wasn’t the only chapter in his Hollywood-esque musical career. He was even a part of legendary heavy metal outfit, System Of A Down at one point!
But after leaving the band, he seems to be spending more time listening to electronic music, or more specifically Swedish House Mafia, these days.
When he’s not marshalling Kedah’s defence in their quest for MSL invincibility, Khairul Helmi reportedly teleports himself to Hollywood for gigs that would leave the likes of Nicholas Cage and Russell Brand questioning their career. For instance, he seems to be a natural replacement for Hugh Jackman, doesn’t he?
He pulls off the Clark Kent persona effortlessly as well. His wife… I mean Lois Lane would be exceptionally proud.
Van Helsing anyone? How did you miss out Khairul Helmi rampantly destroying every vampire out there?!
Naturally, his Hollywood exploits seem to have landed him some major friendships. For example, there’s Vin Diesel, who apparently said ‘Oh boy’ at the sight of him.
Then there was his trip to Anfield, alongside the modern day James Bond – Daniel Craig. As he said, he was there to ‘teman’ the ‘uncle’.
Being the undisputed legend he is, Khairul Helmi is involved in a host of other things. Remember the time he fought a war all the way in Somalia?
And that time when shockwaves were sent down the spines of individuals at EA Sports, when Khairul Helmi opted to not sue them for ‘copyright infringement’.
Who would have thought that Khairul was once a prison fighting champion? Strangely, he almost looks like Yuri Boyka here. Strange indeed.
And of course, as a part-time pilot, how can ever ever resist the idea of pulling pranks on his passengers?
Behind all these eccentric aspects of his personality, the Kedah defender seems to be a really nice guy off the pitch.
He might be a fan of the notorious ‘Mastika’ magazine….
Or he might enjoy the occassional dining experience in hell…
But at the end of the day, Khairul Helmi is someone every single one of you would want to be friends with!
Stay funny, Khairul Helmi! Your Instagram account is an absolute breath of fresh air for Malaysian football! #TeamKhairulHelmi
