JDT has made it hard on themselves to qualify for the next stage after losing 3-2 away to Phlippines Global FC.
JDT’s slow and sloppy football in the first half was rightly punished by Global as they scored all their three goals in eight minutes thanks to Dennis Villanueva, Shu Sasaki and Amani Aguinaldo, although Gabriel Guerra’s brace did offered them some hope.
JDT though could’ve taken the lead after five minutes. A great through pass from Guerra found Hazwan Bakri, whose shot from a tight angle was just tipped away by Patrick Deyto as the ball hit the post.
But as time went on, Global became more confident and faster with the ball and they were finally rewarded when on the 26th minute.
Just after Kemy Agustien’s powerful shot from outside hit the crossbar, Dennis Villanueva got ahead of Marcos Antonio to meet Hikaru Minegishi’s low cross and guided the ball near post into the goal for a well deserved lead.
Six minutes later, Global doubled their lead. Shu Sasaki beats the offside trap to collect a superb long ball and shoots through the legs of Izham Tarmizi for two.
Global then got their third three minutes later. A counter-attack lead to Kemy Agustien laying the ball from the right side of the box for Amani Aguinaldo who coolly converts, despite Izham getting a touch on the ball.
Three minutes after the restart, JDT offered a sign of a comeback when Fazly Mazlan’s pass was not dealt with properly and Guerra launched a thunderous shot past Patrick Deyto to pull one back.
On the 59th minute, Azammuddin Akil’s cross found Guerra unmarked at close range and everyone thought JDT had two, but Deyto reacted quickly to deny his header.
Global themselves could’ve got a fourth on the 66th minute when Wesley Santos tried to bend the ball into the far post, but it just went wide.
On the 81st minute, Matt Hartmann also could’ve got on the scoresheet when he let his powerful low shot fly and Izham did well to thwart it.
Two minutes later, JDT has their second. Azrif Nasrulhaq was able to pull back the ball from the goal-line and Gabriel Guerra converts his shot close range.
But JDT could not find the equalizer as Global held on for a famous win. JDT now most likely finish 2nd in their group considering Magwe and Bouengket Angkor’s shortcomings as Global has yet to face them. If they do, they hope to finish as the best runners-up to qualify for the next stage.
