Yes, Tan Cheng Hoe did tender his resignation
With rumours abuzz that Tan Cheng Hoe will most likely be selected for the position of assistant to national head coach Mario Gomez, the Kedah head coach teased us by confirming he has tendered his resignation to Kedah FA.
Speaking to Berita Harian, Tan Cheng Hoe confessed yesterday that that he has tendered his resignation to the Kedah Football Association (KFA) last Saturday. However, he has yet to receive an answer from the officials at KFA.
Is Tan Cheng Hoe REALLY leaving Kedah?
Football fans were left baffled and eager for an update. Will Tan Cheng Hoe leave Kedah while they’re soaring high in the Super League? Should the national squad be given more priority than the local football clubs?
More importantly, who will replace him if he leaves Kedah? After all, Tan Cheng Hoe is the man who bagged the Best Coach award at the Anugerah Bola Sepak Kebangsaan 2016, and there aren’t many local coaches who can live up to his stature.
Where’s your offer letter, Cheng Hoe?
KFA’s president, Dato’ Seri DiRaja Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah decided to clarify the situation via a statement of KFA’s official Facebook page.
The KFA president confirmed that KFA did receive Tan Cheng Hoe’s resignation letter on the 1st of April.
However, the president stressed that so long as there is no official offer letter from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Tan Cheng Hoe will remain as Kedah’s head coach, as per his contract.
“The KFA council want Tan Cheng Hoe to submit an official offer letter from the FAM before a decision is made. We will not make a decision until we receive the official offer from the FAM,” he said.
FAM also pacified local football fans by suggesting that Tan Cheng Hoe should probably continue his duties with the state team until the end of their FA Cup campaign.
They will also hold a meeting with KFA to discuss the status of Tan Cheng Hoe.
Apart from Tan Cheng Hoe, new national head coach Mario Gomez has also chosen JDT assistant coach’s Raul Longhi and goalkeeper coach Azmin Azram to join him.
Kedah will take on PKNP FC in the FA Cup quarterfinal return leg at the Perak Stadium on the 21st of April.
