National football squad will revert back to “Harimau Malaya”

Dato’ Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin, Secretary-General of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has made an announcement on the FAM’s official Facebook page that the national squad will no longer be known as “Harimau Malaysia”.

Instead, the national team will revert back to the name “Harimau Malaya”, in accordance with its original name since its formation.

The change of name was decided by the President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, after unceasing requests from Malaysian football fans.

Local football fans requested for the former name to be reinstated to reflect the historic moments created by the national team during its glory days.

The statement on the Facebook page also noted that the official Harimau Malaysia website will be shut down immediately. For all the latest info about Malaysian football, fans can visit the FAM’s official website.

More to come…
