As the new FAM (Football Association of Malaysia) president, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim confessed football development in the country is among his biggest concerns at the moment.
Tunku Ismail said in an interview that it should be FAM’s responsibility to “manage and supervise” any programmes involving football development in the country, and it should be done without interference from other organisations.
While elaborating on the subject, the new president also proposed that the National Football Development Program (NFDP) should be placed under FAM, along with the budget allocated for it.
Tunku Ismail reiterated that all football development programmes in the country should be managed by FAM, and not the Youth and Sports Ministry.
However, Youth and Sports Minister YB Khairy Jamaluddin does not seem to be too fond of the idea.
“We will give our best cooperation to FAM.” Khairy Jamaluddin told the media after the launch of the RIMAU license plate bidding process.
While he also said that he is confident that Tunku Ismail’s leadership would “provide a positive impact” on the development of football in the country, he maintained that NFDP is a government policy and it will continue to operate under KBS.
NFDP is youth football development programme launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for youth between seven and 17 years old.
Sorry, TMJ, looks like your suggestion has been shot down!
