Malaysia’s badminton and people’s champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei is someone we all know as relentless and a gold-medal addict. He always puts everything he has into a match and makes the the best out if it.
Clashing dates: Indian Open or Malaysian Open?
Fresh from victory upon returning from Birmingham with a big smile on his face and trophy in his bag, a rejuvenated Lee Chong Wei said he’s not ready to slow down and will continue to ace every subsequent tournament, taking it one step at a time.
However, the four-time All England champion is being faced with a dilemma. He would have to choose to participate in either the Indian Open or the Malaysian Open due to the clashing dates.
The Indian Open, which will be happening in New Delhi, will commence end of the month on 28th of March, until the 2nd of April.
The Malaysian Open, which will be held in Kuching, will take place from the 4th of April until 9th of April 2017.
The Malaysian Open starts just two days after the Indian Open, and if he participates, Lee Chong Wei might not have enough time to get back, to rest, and start prepping for the Malaysian Open.
But hey, his last minute participation in the All England tournament resulted in a gold medal, so who are we to judge?
I still have Glasgow coming up!
“I will discuss this matter with my coaches Hendrawan and Tey Seu Bock before making any decision. For now, I’m still considering the Indian Open, my name is on the list, but I’m afraid that two tournaments back to back might take a toll on my fitness.” Chong Wei told BH when asked about which tournament he’s going to pick.
“I’d love to focus on the Malaysian Open, because I’m looking to clinch my 12 title. But let’s wait and see.” the 35-year-old added.
“I also have to be careful. I don’t want to risk being injured because the recovery period will take time, and I have the Glasgow world championship coming up.”
Well, whatever you pick, we’ll alway be here to support you Datuk!
