“We cannot be overconfident”- Zac Anderson speaks about prepping for FA Cup

The FA Cup remains as one of Malaysia’s interesting football tournament to follow. Now that we’re down to the final eight teams, things are getting even more exciting.

We have a rejuvenated Pahang going up against former FA cup winners Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Sabah will be taking on a solid Negeri Sembilan, and Premier League’s Terengganu is taking on Super League’s bottom-placed Sarawak.

Kedah arguably has the easiest fixture, going up against Malaysia Premier League’s third-placed club, PKNP FC. The Red Eagles are soaring high and have not lost a game this season, going strong on top of the table with 18 points.

It’s do or die at this point

But even so, Kedah’s Zac Anderson is wary of his teammates being overconfident during the upcoming fixture. At this point, every match is do-or-die clash, and they don’t keep pushing, they might just be met with a shocking result.

“We’re going in a do-or-die clash at this stage, the quarter finals, and it’s difficult because every team is looking to win and they will put up a good fight.” said Anderson, who scored one of the two goals against Perak in the FA Cup fixture last Saturday. The other goal was scored by dangerous forward, Ken Ilso.

Anderson also added that complacency is the killer of success, and urged his teammates to prepare for the worst.

“Even before we face Perak, we were told that Perak can be intimidating as they are a strong, experienced team,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian

Anderson also noted that Kedah needs to work twice as hard when they start training in back in Alor Setar.

“I think we have a solid team, we have good understanding amongst us, and we take it one at a time. Right now, we’re going to focus on the very next match – which is Kedah versus PKNP.”
