Malaysia emerged champions of Round 2 of the Hockey World League (Round 2) after coming from behind to seal a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over China in Dhaka, today.
Having outclassed Egypt to secure a slot in the semi-finals of the Hockey World League yesterday, the Speedy Tigers came into today’s in match in positive mood. But that quickly changed when China broke the deadlock through a penalty corner on the 15th minute mark.
China went on to double their lead merely seven minutes later as Jun Sun found the back of the net from open play. Malaysia increased the tempo of the match after the break, but they only managed to reduce the deficit in the fourth quarter as Shahril Saabah made it 2-1 on the 46th minute.
10 minutes later, Najmi found the back of the net in dramatic fashion to make it 2-2 and drag the game into a penalty shoot-out. Thankfully, the Speedy Tigers held their nerves to eventually clinch a 5-3 win that positively ends their 8-day campaign in Dhaka.
