#AllEngland: Chong Wei and Co march into second round

Malaysian badminton star Datuk Lee Chong Wei is through to the second round of the All England Championship after sealing an easy straight sets victory over French shuttler Brice Leverdez.

The world number one clinched the first set 21-15, before going on to wrap up the next one 21-12 – winning the entire match in just 35 minutes to effectively book his spot in the next round. Chong Wei will next face Taiwan’s Tzu Wei.

Meanwhile, mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying are also through to the second round after comfortably outclassing Swedish duo Ruponen-Hugstrom 21-12, 21-19. They are scheduled to face China’s Zhang Nan- Li Yinhul today.

Men’s doubles top seeds Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong also secured a winning start to their All England campaign after they edged over Japan’s Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi 21-15, 21-18. The Rio Olympics silver medalists are slated to take on China’s Liu Xiaolong-Xu Chen in the second round.

At the same time, Vivian Kho and Woon Khe Wei dropped a set against Thai pair Puttita-Sapsiree, but they eventually bounced back to book their second round spot by winning 18-21, 21-11, 21-17.
