Only 3 weeks to go for FAM elections!
Come 25th of March 2017, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) committee members will be faced with the critical task of electing a new FAM president during the 53rd FAM elections.
It has been sensational to watch the battle between the final two candidates; Johor Crown Prince, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (TMJ) and former Kelantan FA’s president, Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Tunku Ismail led Johor to win the Malaysia Super League cup three years in a row, and Johor also became the first Southeast Asian team to win the AFC cup. Tan Sri Annuar Musa, despite his recent setbacks, played a huge role in reviving Kelantan FA back in 2007.
Even though TMJ appears to be the crowd favourite with his straightforward approach and sharp witted comments, it’s really anyone’s game at this point.
One of TMJ’s biggest supporter for the upcoming (FAM)’s elections is Melaka United FC’s vice president, Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Mahadi. Datuk Yusoff Mahadi publicly declared that he’d rather work TMJ than Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Since he is also contesting for the role of Vice President, he even went as far as to implore FAM members not to vote for him if they’re not voting for TMJ.
“Im not afraid to lose. I’m afraid to win” – Datuk Yusoff Mahadi
However, as the election date is approaching, Datuk Yusoff Mahadi is aware of the responsibilities that may fall on his shoulders as vice president should TMJ win and becomes FAM president.
“I’m not afraid of losing or not making it to the final cut. I’m actually afraid of winning.” Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said.
“If I win, I will be faced with a huge responsibility, in a huge mission to revamp the image of Malaysian football under TMJ.”
“But I will accept the outcome, whatever it is. I will give my best to TMJ if he wins and becomes the new FAM president. If he doesn’t win, then I will resume my responsibilities with Melaka United.”
Apart from Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah and Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal are also contesting the position of FAM’s vice president.
