Benjamin Mora’s boys put up a spirited performance in front of the crowd at the Stadium Tun Abdul Razak, a much needed boost after drawing with Selangor last week.
This win means that JDT is though to the next round of the FA Cup. As JDT’s coach Benjamin Mora proudly asserted before the game, they only play to make it to the finals, they are here to win and they will beat FELDA.
Gaby Guerra paved the way to victory for JDT with a beautiful finish early on the 12 minute.
JDT wasted no time in converting the match’s first corner kick into a goal. A deflected header found Amirul who tried to manoeuvre, and when he realised he had limited space he made a swift back pass and Gaby Guerra used his right foot to blast it home.
Although JDT powered up after the first goal and had Gaby Guerra thirsting for a second, JDT did not cause much commotion for FELDA United.
Norshahrul (or Mat Yo) had an early chance (7th minute) to get himself on the scoresheet but he appeared unprepared and sent a weak shot straight to the keeper. It was impossible to Mat Yo to conjure up anything else that night as Kunanlan was constantly looming around him.
Another chance for FELDA appeared in the 21st minute as JDT’s temporarily lax defence saw Gaston Cellerino face to face with the goalkeeper with only Marcos Antonio rushing to his side, but unfortunately the Argentine’s shot hit the post.
Gaston tried to make up for this setback at the 63rd minute when finds the back of the net but tragically he wasn’t aware that he was in an offside position. The crowd cheered, and Gaston celebrated the equaliser, but the flag went up.
As JDT were determined to look for their second goal of night, Benjamin Mora decided to bring on Cabrera for Hazwan Bakri, who gave a lacklustre performance for JDT. Cabrera’s energy and intensity was felt almost immediately. He was marked by the FELDA United defenders and was brought down again and again, but Cabrera he was on a mission to prove Mora that he was right to bring him on.
A long pass from Safiq Rahim found Mahali on the right, who dribbled pas the FELDA defenders and sent a delicious cross to Cabrera. Cabrera struggled for a few seconds to find his footing, but eventually the Argentine defeated FELDA’s defenders and the goalkeeper to find the back of the net.
