It’s been confirmed.
Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim has officially joined Tan Sri Annuar Musa in accepting his nomination to compete for the top job at Football Association of Malaysia.
The news was confirmed on Johor Southern Tigers’ Facebook page today, as photos of TMJ signing the necessary paperwork alongside Sultan Ibrahim as well as FAM Secretary-General Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin was unveiled.
Besides TMJ, three other candidates were nominated for the role – YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Tan Sri Annuar Musa as well as Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat. But as of this morning, Annuar Musa was the only candidate who had accepted his nomination.
Tunku Ismail has consistently distanced himself from the job, claiming that he is focused on developing football in Johor. But last week, a delegation of FAM affiliates held an audience with the Sultan of Johor, in a bid to lobby for TMJ to compete for the role. Sultan Ibrahim gave his green light at the end of the meeting, ordering his son to ‘save’ Malaysian football.
Now, it appears that that the JDT owner has officially confirmed his decision to contest a direct two-way battle against the former Kelantan FA president.
