PKNS FC shocked their state counterparts Selangor as they won 5-3 in an entertaining yet controversial match as the Red Giants were given an unhappy homecoming at the Shah Alam Stadium
Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh scored a hat-trick against his former team with Safee Sali and Matias Jadue in the scoresheet as well while Selangor got their goals from Syahmi Safari and a Francis Forkey Doe brace
Selangor though was able to get the lead right from the kick-off. Rizal Fahmi found S. Veenod on the left, and his low cross was failed to dealt with completely as Zamir palmed it away, only for the ball falling to Syahmi who has space on the right to put away the rebound.
It was all Selangor as they have most of the ball while PKNS looked sloppy with possession. But the complexion of the game changed when a short pass found Patrick in the centre of the box as he was able to shoot the ball past Norazlan Razali for PKNS’ equalizer on the 20th minute
Then, PKNS took a shock lead five minutes later. After Raimi Md Nor fouled Matias Jadue by the right near the halfway line, Nazrin’s free-kick found Safee Sali in the box, who headed the ball in, much to the Selangor fans’ ire.
But PKNS’ lead only lasted three minutes when Forkey Doe was able to run into the right side of the box and with almost no pressure, got his shot inside the goal as Selangor tied the game up 2-2.
Raimi then was booked for a foul on Matias this time and it later proved to be costly for him and Selangor
However, it was PKNS who went into half-time with the lead two minutes before the end of the first half when Matias broke free on the right-wing and his cross found Patrick who despite saw his header saved by Norazlan’s leg point-blank, got to the rebound first as he once again caused problems to Selangor’s defense.
After two minutes into the restart, PKNS got a fourth when substitute Alif Haikal’s cross caused Selangor problems with the ball heading to Safee who miskicked, but the ball went into Matias’ direction as the right-winger tucked away the shot near post.
But Selangor refused to give up. On the 55th minute, Juliano Mineiro, only a minute after he came on, found Forkey Doe, who despite getting pressured by three PKNS defenders, gets a shot off from the right and past Zamir to make it 4-3.
However, PKNS restored their two-goal lead three minutes later when after a throw-in, a cross found Patrick. With the Selangor defense static, Patrick scored and got his hat-trick.
Then, controversy erupted around the 70th minute. As soon as Raimi was substituted for Adam Nor Azlin, the former was given a second yellow after an off-the-ball incident again on Matias. Then a long discussion started whether the substitution will count. The referee initially allowed the substitution, but the PKNS players furiously protested and another discussion soon started.
Ten minutes after the incident started, it was decided that the substitution will not count and Selangor have to play on with 10-men, although Adam Nor later came on for Rizal Fahmi.
But it didn’t stop Selangor trying to fight back, but all they got was nothing as PKNS picked up a famous win and their first three points of the season.
