Malaysia’s head coach of diving, Yang Zhuliang has decided it is time to thrust his young divers into the international arena.
He has called up five youth divers into the main squad for the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur. The five youth divers are 16-year olds Jason Sabilin, Gabriel Gilbert, Muhammad Syahmi Mohd Rezal, Hanis Nazirul Jayasurya and 15-year old Kimberly Bong.
Zhuliang told Harian Metro that the decision is the best for giving the youths a chance to show their ability in a big competition such as the SEA Games, especially in their own home country.
“This is a chance for the young athletes to answer the challenge. They need to raise their effort and difficulty level after this,”
“These young divers will be the hope for the future. Not just for the SEA Games, but also for the Asian Games, Commonwealth and Olympics,” said Zhuliang.
The national diving squad is targeting a clean sweep of all 13 gold medals and Zhuliang is confident that the athletes will realize that target.
The SEA Games will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 19-31 August.
