Outraged Penang FA fans to submit petition for jersey revamp

So, how you do you guys like the new Penang FA jersey? We’re guessing….not so much?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. The new jersey has left a large chunk of Penang supporters extremely crestfallen, so much so that they have even started a petition to call for a revamp.

The petition, named the “Penang Panthers Supporters: Change Penang FA Jersey Design 2017” has already garnered 1,013 signatures, just 487 short of reaching their target of 1,500 signatures. The petition will be delivered to the Penang Panthers Supporters, Penang FA, and Legea Sport Penang for consideration.

“13 January 2017, Penang FA has launched a new design for the 2017 season. This design was criticized and badly received by the local football supporters. We urge the management of Penang FA to reconsider the already launched design and changed it to a better design. Until a new design is introduced, we refused to buy and support the sale of the jersey.” the petition reads.

Fans are unhappy that the jersey design did not live up to their expectations. One disillusioned fan called the jersey “outdated”, “not attractive”, while others said it is undeserving of the fans.

Penang FA team manager Zairil Khir Johari said that they were going for a simple, classic design, enhanced with the sponsor’s logo.

He also asserted that true fans will wear the jersey anyway, because it boils down to team spirit, not about being in trend or fashionable.

“It’s impossible to make everyone happy and to cater to everyone’s different tastes.” he added.

Do you agree with Zairil? Or are you signing the petition? Let us know in the comments.
