Malaysian Masters: Injury could tarnish Iskandar Zulkarnain’s hopes

Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin’s hopes to repeat his feat of reaching the Malaysia Masters finals is in danger after suffering a hip injury.

Iskandar, last year’s Malaysia Masters runner-up, said he is unsure of going to Sibu, Sarawak next week for this year’s Masters after picking up the injury during training.

However, Iskandar said that he will know the full extent of his condition in two days before making a decision.

“I feel pain around my hip up to the point that it’s difficult to sleep. I have until Friday and if everything is as it is, I will play. If not, I will put out of the tournament,” Iskandar was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

While Iskandar admits he will be disappointed if he is forced to pull out, he refuses to take any risk to go back into action before being full healed.

If Iskandar does pull out, he will focus on the German Grand Prix Gold (28 February – 5 March) and the All England tournament.

Iskandar’s performance at last year’s Malaysia Masters was the catalyst for his improved form during the whole 2016 that now sees him in the top 25 players in the world.
