Terengganu Cycling Team gunning for Tokyo 2020 spot

The Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) are determined to everything in their power to make it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

TSG Chief Operations officer, Nasiruddin Wan Idrus explained that the team received RM 6.7 million to prepare them for the Olympics. TSG will also try their best to finish fourth in the upcoming Asian Tour series.

“To make it to the Olympics, TSG will have to finish fourth place in the Asian Tour series. If TSG does not rake in points for Malaysia, then Malaysia will not be eligible for the Tokyo Olympics, just like what happened with the Rio Olympics.”

“Prior to this. TSG has always contributed the most point in the Olympics. In fact, 90% of the points came from TSG.” he added.

TSG will be making their way to Melbourne for over a month to undergo first phase of their training to prepare for the Philippine Tour, Le Tour de Langkawi, and the 2017 SEA Games.

The main focus for TSG this year is to defend the ‘White Jersey’ victory won by Terengganu’s Mohammed Adiq Husainie Othman, who emerged the best Asian rider. He was the first Malaysian to win the title in the race’s 21-year history.
