Former English footballer Matt Le Tissier has admitted that he one of the young footballers who got a “naked massage” from a former coach during his time at the club.
This is in the wake of FA’s inquiry into sexual abuse in football. Bob Higgins, a former youth officer at the club, has been accused of sexually abusing young players.
Matt Le Tissier even considers himself as “one of the lucky ones”, suggesting that there are other victims who had it worse than him.
According to Le Tissier, he and other young players were given naked massages by Bob Higgins. “Everyone was kind of naked and getting thrown on this bed … and a very quick massage – it was uncomfortable … It’s very, very wrong for a start – looking back on it, you think it’s wrong but as a young boy you thought, ‘Is this normal?’” he told BBC.
“But as you grow into an adult, you look at it and think ‘that’s not right’.” he added.
Although he made it clear that the incident was very wrong, he called for everyone to not consider him a victim.
Higgins has been unable to reach for comments at the time of writing.
