Malaysian referee, Rita Ghani has been selected to be a part of the refereeing team that will be officiating the football event at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The 38 year-old Sabahan will be joined by 14 referees and 24 assistant referees in Rio. This is not the first time Rita has made it big on the international area – she was voted as Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Women’s Referee of the Year in 2014.
Besides that, Rita also became the first Malaysian referee to officiate at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, in Canada last year.
She has over 10 years of refereeing experience, which enabled her to be one of the two referees selected from Asia. The second one is North Korea’s Ri Hyang-Ok
