Australian Open: Andy Murray eases into third round

British tennis star Andy Murray is through to the third round of the Australian Open after sealing a comfortable victory over Australia’s Sam Groth earlier today.

Groth came into the duel in high spirits, looking to pull off an upset in front of his crowd though Murray was in complete control from the beginning, and wrapped the match up in straight sets.

The Brit claimed the first set 6-0, before Groth tried to force a comeback in the second set. But Murray held on and eventually won it 6-4. He kept his momentum going in the third set, clinching a 6-1 win to book his spot in the third round of the competition.

“It is nice to play different styles. Sam is different, coming to the net a lot but when he serves well it is easy to get impatient,” Murray told Daily Express after the match.

“He didn’t start serving well but in the second set it became much tougher.

“I was standing next to him in the locker room before the match and he was saying to someone it was his first time on Rod Laver, He had never even hit before on it.

“I thought ‘good’.”

Murray will next take on 32nd seed Joao Sousa in the third round.
