The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has come up with a new plan for the game, they are looking at revamping the whole point system.
The BWF wants to introduce a new and revised 11-point system, as opposed to the conventional 21-point system that is being practiced all around the world. The federation is positive that the 11-point system will make the kick up the pace and hence make the game more exciting.
However, the federation has received allegations of being unfair, as the 11-point system will work better in favour of veteran shuttlers like Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan. A shorter duration of play time means that these veteran players still have the chance to shine and is much easier for them to maintain their fitness level.
BWF PResident Poul Erik Hoyer Larsen rubbished those claims, saying there is no evidence that the 11-point system favours the more experienced shuttlers. “I think the players actually have to be more fit and quick in the 11-point system. They need to be alert at all times, especially towards to end of the game.” he told reporters.
Malaysia Badminton Association (BAM) has actually put the 11-point system to test; during the U-19 World Badminton Championship in Terengganu, and at the Taiwan Masters Grand Prix in Taiwan last year.
