If you’re a Malaysian badminton player, beware of BAM’s new mission!
The Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM) is on a mission to ban all unfit badminton players from competing in tournaments. The ‘unfit’ level will be determined by a series of tests conducted by BAM.
But fear not, BAM understands that fitness does not happen overnight. All badminton players have time until next year to meliorate their fitness level. This new rule will only take effect in April next year.
BAM technical director Morten Frost understands that this is a tough penalty, but it is a necessary move to uphold the quality of badminton in Malaysia. “When they show improvements, they will be allowed to compete again. This applies to both seniors and juniors.” Frost told The Star.
BAM’s Deputy President Datuk Norza Zakaria also stressed that this is move is more of an educational process rather than a punishment. He wants both players and officials to understand that there is a rationale behind this new rule.
