Brazil legend Carlos Alberto has died at the age of 72 following a heart attack. Alberto was the Brazil captain of the 1970 World Cup-winning side, and also a teammate of fellow Brazil legend, Pele.
Apart from the fatal heart attack confirmed by the Brazilian Football Confederation on Tuesday, not much is known about his death.
Carlos Alberto has capped 53 times for Brazil, and he also scored one of the most memorable goals during the 1970 World Cup Final against Italy. Brazil beat Italy 4-1 in Mexico City that day.
Alberto also made the FIFA 100 for the greatest living players in 2004.
In a short statement on CNN, FIFA has said that “It is with tremendous sadness that FIFA has learned that Carlos Alberto Torres died at the age of 72 on Tuesday 25 October 2016.”
