Kedah boss Tan Cheng Hoe believes the partnership between his two foreign strikers – Shane Smeltz and Thiago Augusto – is strong enough to help them outclass PDRM in the semi-finals of the Malaysia Cup.
The Red Eagles have effectively secured third spot in the Malaysia Super League and it’s due in no small part to the form of Smeltz and Augusto – both of whom have been involved with approximately 18 goals, since joining Kedah in July. And Cheng Hoe believes they have more to offer.
“These two strikers have been with us since July and they’ve managed to prove their credentials as prolific forward. Thiago Augusto has been involved in eight goals so far, while Smeltz has already produced 10 goals for Kedah,” he told Harian Metro.
“The combination between both guys look really positive and judging by the chemistry and confidence they possess at this juncture, hopefully they’ll be able to make a massive impact in the semi-finals of the Malaysia Cup,” Cheng Hoe added.
This comes on the back of their impressive 3-0 win over Terengganu last weekend, where Smeltz and Augusto were ruthless, yet again. But Cheng Hoe was delighted with the overall squad performance and is already looking forward to their next challenge.
“The victory over Terengganu will definitely boost our morale and help motivate the squad, before our Malaysia Cup clash against PDRM,” he enthused.
The first leg of Kedah’s Malaysia Cup cruncher against PDRM is scheduled to take place this Friday, while the second leg will be played on the 14th of October.
