Mourinho gives in to fan pressure, set to drop star striker for Leicester clash

Manchester United fans, we have some good news for you!

Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to drop Man Utd skipper Wayne Rooney from the starting eleven, when they host Leicester City at Old Trafford, this weekend!

The England international has been in abhorrent form over the last few weeks, which doesn’t come as a shock, considering his stable decline in the last 12 months. But his form capitulated last weekend, as he put in a shocking performance that left fans absolutely raging on the stands.

Now that you’re up-to-date on the issue, you’d probably be able to make sense of the hatred that Rooney has been subjected in the last few days. In a poll by fanzine Red Issue Sanctuary, 99 per cent wanted him dropped. Some even urged him to retire from professional football!

Mourinho has always been a huge fan of Rooney, even from his time at Real Madrid and Chelsea, and he was confident of getting Rooney back to his best this season. That probably explains why Mourinho went gung-ho over the summer, claiming that he’ll only play Rooney in his best position – The No.10 role or the No.9 role.

But with Pogba coming into the team, and Rooney failing to step things up, Mourinho was left in a complete state of limbo. Hence, he pushed Rooney back into midfield for the Watford clash – something he vowed to never do, in his first few press conferences as Man United’s manager.

If Rooney gets dropped and United go on to beat Leicester this weekend, one can only wonder if the England captain will be converted into a bit-part player. It’ll also be interesting to see the sort of effect this has on his England career.
