S. Veenod wants to be OKS’ main man in midfield

Selangor midfielder S. Veenod is determined on impressing national team coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee in training in order to seal a spot in the squad for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup.

The 28 year-old received his first ever call-up to the national team after playing 8 years of professional football and now sets his sights on receiving valuable game time for his nation.

He is joined by other debutants, such as Fakrul Aiman (PDRM) and Safawi Rasid (T-Team).

According to the hard-working midfielder, his chances of being a part of the AFF Suzuki Cup squad are high and his journey begins when Harimau Malaysia faces Indonesia on Tuesday.

“I am excited because it has always been a dream to represent the national team. I have to work hard and my story begins against Indonesia,” Veenod said as quoted by Harian Metro.

“I also hope that my hard work pays off and earns me a spot in the AFF Suzuki Cup squad.”

There is a good chance of S. Veenod making the Suzuki Cup squad cut because of the recent retirements of Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) midfielders Safiq Rahim and Amirulhadi Zainal.

The Red Giants talisman will be battling out against the likes of Brendan Gan, Baddrol Bakhtiar and Irfan Fazail for a place in the middle of the park for Harimau Malaysia.
