National track cyclist, Azizulhasni Awang will compete at the SEA Games next year after emerging as Asia’s best rider in keirin at the Rio Olympics.
The bronze medallist is keen to take part due to Malaysia’s status as host nation of the biennial sporting event.
“This is a chance for Malaysians to watch my performance up close. In fact, the SEA Games will be held on local soil so it has its own attractions,” said Azizulhasni, who last took part in the Games at Thailand 2007.
Besides that, he is also looking forward to trying out the new velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan as it’ll be one of the venues at the SEA Games.
“I didn’t take part before this because I would like to give the opportunity to up-and-coming cyclists but it’s different now since we are hosting the event.
“With that said, I might only be competing in one event because I’m doing this for the local crowd instead of medals,” he told Harian Metro.
Azizulhasni, who is also fondly known as The Pocketrocketman due to his miniature stature, has recently created history by becoming the first national track cyclist to win a medal at the Olympics when he clinched the bronze in keirin.
