Dato’ Lee Chong Wei’s journey at the Rio Olympics has officially ended after his nail-bitting final affair against Chen Long earlier today.
The match was billed as a battle between the world’s top two badminton players and the action we were treated to certainly fit the pre-match expectations.
While the first set was a closely-fought one, Chen Long produced a late surge to eventually win it 21-18.
The second set was equally tight, but as things progressed, it was evident that Chong Wei was battling lethargy to stay within Chen Long’s distance.
Unfortunately for the Malaysian, Chen Long upped his tempo in the second half of the set, and strolled ahead to clinch another 21-18 win and seal the gold medal for China.
More to come…
