Lee Chong Wei is through to the final of men’s singles in Rio after sealing victory in an emphatic three-set thriller against Lin Dan earlier today.
Chong Wei knew he’d have a tough battle, both physically and mentally, in this bout – something that predictably happened in the first set. Lin Dan came out firing on all cylinders, clinching the first set 21-15.
But the Malaysian shuttler bounced back in the second set, pushing hard early on to create an 11-2 lead at the set interval stage. Lin Dan attempted to muster a comeback, but Chong Wei did more than enough to hold on and seal a 21-11 win to level the score.
That forced the game into a rubber set, which was hostile and tight from the get-go. Both men battled neck-to-neck in terms of points, before Chong Wei eventually sealed a narrow 22-20 win to effectively book his spot in the final of the Olympics!
More to come..
