The success of Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying seems to have won the hearts of millions across the country.
Though the match was broadcasting relatively late last night, plenty of Malaysians stayed up to catch their heroes in action against Indonesia’s Ahmad Tontowi and Liliyana Natsir. Unfortunately for Malaysia, the Indonesian pair ran riot to clinch a 21-14, 21-12 win, effectively handing them the gold medal.
While fans were frustrated with the outcome, they were nonetheless proud of Peng Soon and Liu Ying’s fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
But what transpired on Thursday morning, left Malaysians completely shocked. Several local dailies criticized Peng Soon and Liu Ying for allegedly ‘disappointing’ fans within the country with their ‘lackluster’ performance in the final.
Malaysians though, refused to remain silent. Over the last few hours, plenty of individuals have taken to social media to publicly slam these dailies and defend the achievements of Peng Soon and Liu Ying last night.
