National men’s doubles duo, Goh V Shem / Tan Wee Kiong are all fired up to face their Chinese opponent, Fu Haifeng / Zhang Nan in the final, this Friday.
It will be a repeat of their group stage clash in which V Shem and Wee Kiong stunned the fourth seed to finish as group winners, but the upcoming showdown will have way higher stakes.
“We expected the Chinese pair to advance to the final easily since their semi-final opponent wasn’t that strong.
“We’ll prepare ourselves as best as we can in these two days to deliver a second upset to them,” said V Shem, as quoted by Berita Harian.
The national pairing defeated China’s Chai Biao / Hong Wei in a pulsating semi-final yesterday after beating world no.1 duo Lee Yong Dae / Yoo Yeon-seong en route to final, while Fu and Zhang easily dispatched Great Britain’s Marcus Ellis / Chris Langridge in straight sets in the other semis.
The men’s double final will begin at 10:50 p.m. (local time), this Friday.
