Malaysia’s hopes of clinching its first ever Olympic gold medal seems to be impeccably bright after Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong secured their spot in the final of the men’s doubles category.
Both men were put through an intense battle against China’s Chai Biao-Hong Wei in the semi-final, but the Malaysian duo prevailed after winning an intense three-set bout.
Having clinched the opening set 21-18, they were completely outclassed in the second set, with the Chinese pair winning 21-12.
While the momentum was visibly with Chai Biao-Hong Wei at this juncture, Wee Kiong and V Shem pulled off a stunning performance in the rubber set, sealing a 21-17 win that effectively sent them into the final.
This comes after Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying also secured a spot in the final, after beating yet another Chinese pair.
