National men’s singles shuttler, Zulfadli Zulkiffli is aiming for a spot at Tokyo 2020 after failing to make the cut for the Rio Olympics.
According to the 2011 world junior champion, he wanted to qualify for Rio to gain some valuable experience.
“I was aiming for Brazil at first to get some important game time, then I can look ahead to Tokyo 2020 for a podium spot but sadly that didn’t happen,” he told Harian Metro.
The 23-year-old failed to qualify on merit as his world ranking dropped and he couldn’t make it to the top 16 before the start of the Games.
“With that said, I won’t feel disappointed or dispirited. I’ll work even harder after this to accomplish my goal of winning a medal at Tokyo 2020,” said Zulfadli.
The former Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) player is expected to participate in the Brazil Open before joining the Japan and South Korea Open, after a month of inactivity since joining the Vietnam Open.
