The financial incentives are part of the National Sports Council’s (NSC) reward schemes for successful Olympians, with gold medallists getting RM1 million and a monthly pension of RM5,000, RM300,000 and a monthly pension of RM3,000 for silver winners, while bronze medallists will receive RM100,000 with a RM2,000 monthly pension.

The duo clinched the silver medal in the 10m synchronized platform event to give the nation its first medal in Rio, after finishing behind China and ahead of Canada.

The director-general of NSC, Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said that Pandelela and Jun Hoong will receive an equal share of the RM300,000 and their monthly pensions will begin immediately.
