National weightlifter, Hafifi Mansor broke his own national record with an overall lift of 316kg in the 69kg category at the Rio Olympics.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist lifted 140kg in the snatch, before lifting 176kg in the clean and jerk to wipe out his previous record of 313kg at the 2011 World Weightlifting Championships in Paris.
However, the 25-year-old only managed to finish 13th out of 21 competitors, with Shi Zhiyong (352kg) of China clinching the gold, Turkey’s Daniyar Ismayilov (351kg) won silver, and Izzat Artykov (339kg) of Kyrgyzstan occupied third.
“Even though I’m feeling disappointed, but I’m still satisfied with the fact that my training stint in China has bear its fruits.
“I’ll be focusing on the 2017 SEA Games after this,” he said, as quoted by Utusan Online.
