New Straits Times’ (NST) photographer, Supian Ahmad is upset with netizens’ claims on social media about how everything was just an act, after he was allegedly assaulted by Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) fans at the end of the Super League match against Perak at the Perak Stadium.
According to the 37-year-old, he is disappointed with some of the comments accusing him of staging the incident for financial gains.
“I was on duty to take photos at the Super League game between Perak and JDT at the Perak Stadium. When the fight broke out between both sets of fans, I managed to take some pictures of the incident, but I never would have thought they’ll assault me as well.
“There were comments claiming that I lied about losing my camera while on duty. This accusation is baseless as I have proof in the form of photos and a video while I was being assaulted before the camera was snatched by the fans,” he told a press conference.
Supian suffered a loss of RM1,000 after his camera lens and laptop screen was damaged from the incident. He also had injuries on his face and body, while a Canon 1DX camera worth around RM30,000 was stolen by the supporters.
However, the camera was later found by a staff, covered under a jacket on the field.
The ugly scenes broke out after acts of provocation from both sets of supporters following Perak’s 0-1 loss against JDT.
