Johor DT’s sensational run in the Malaysia Super League continued as they sealed a routine 2-1 away win over Sarawak on Friday. Midway through the first half, Marcos Antonio scored to put JDT 1-0 ahead, before Azniee Taib doubled their lead after the break. Syahrul Azwari did manage to pull one back for the Crocs, though Mario Gomez’s men held on for the crucial win.
Felda United kept the pressure on JDT alive by also clinching a 2-1 win over PDRM on Saturday night. Goals from Lutfulla Turaev and Francis Forkey Doe were more than enough for Irfan Bakti’s men to close the gap between them and JDT to only two points – one day after the Southern Tigers had extended it to five points.
Kelantan and Pahang battled out a close 0-0 draw in Kota Bharu last night. The Red Warriors had a new sense of belief about them, with off-field issues reaching a conclusion last week. But that belief was not enough to ultimately dismantle a solid Pahang defence, led by the ever-present Matt Davies.
Shane Smeltz’s strong start to life in Malaysia was given an extended run after he grabbed his third goal for Kedah in their 1-0 win over T-Team. Smeltz scored two goals in their Malaysia Cup outing, earlier last week, and proved to be decisive yet again by bagging the only goal in what was a crucial win for the Red Eagles.
Penang were held to a 1-1 draw by Selangor at the Bandaraya Stadium last night. Jeong Seok-min scored from the spot to put the Panthers 1-0 up on the 26th minute, but Patrick Ronaldinho restored parity merely seven minutes later. Both teams had their fair share of chances, but the score line remained till the end, as Selangor’s title was handed yet another blow.
Perak’s revival continued as they climbed out of the relegation zone via a 2-0 win over Terengganu last night. Kenny Palraj converted a thumping effort in the first half – which was a rare sight – to hand the Bos Gaurus a 1-0 lead. Elias Fernandes then doubled their lead with a fine finish, much to the delight of home fans in Ipoh.
