Khairul Idham produced a stunning performance to clinch his second Moto3 win of the year after finishing first in the German Grand Prix today.
Despite struggling during the qualifying session yesterday, the Malaysian rider looked solid during the warm-up session earlier today, as heavy rain began to pour at the Sachsenring. He set the fastest lap during warm-up, and carried that pace into the race.
Within the first lap, Khairul Idham climbed from 20th to 7th spot, displaying his expert handling of the bike in wet weather conditions. He continued to power ahead and four laps later, the 17 year-old officially took over as the front runner.
With an empty track in front of him, Khairul Idham was able to replicate the form that saw him win the Argentina GP earlier this year. He continued extending his lead by almost a second, every single lap.
He almost lost control of the bike on the 14th lap of the race, but even that failed to deter the Malaysian as he passed the chequered flag to clinch victory, with an 11.131s lead over Andrea Locatelli, who finished second.
The victory makes Khairul Idham the first Malaysian to win two Moto3 races and it also helps him consolidate 10th spot on the overall Moto3 standings.
