National golfers Danny Chia and Kelly Tan have met expectations to qualify for the Rio Olympics, this August.
Team manager Vincent Wong said two more players might join the team after Michelle Koh and Gavin Kyle Green secured a good position in the qualifiers. Official results will be known after 11 July, the final date of the qualifying period.
Each nation is allowed to send two of their best players for both male and female to the prestigious sporting event.
“It is safe to say that Danny has secured his spot and we’ll know by the end of the week on whether Gavin can make it as well,” said Vincent as he referred to another tournament that Gavin is about to join.
“Kelly has also been confirmed for Rio and as for Michelle, she has a 95% chance of qualifying,” he added.
“It’s not a trip to gain experience. Golf is a different kind of sport. It requires the player to be skilful and have the ability to adapt to the course,” he said, as quoted by Harian Metro.
Golf will be making its debut in this year’s edition of the Olympic Games.
