“It was a good tour” – says Kim Swee after Fiji draw

National coach, Ong Kim Swee believed that it has been a fruitful experience for his squad after the completion of the Oceanic Tour 2016 yesterday. Even though his initial objective of getting three wins out of three was not met, he prefers to look at the positive side as he was able to evaluate the players since all of them were given a chance to play.

The national squad completed the tour by drawing 1-1 with Fiji, after losing 2-0 to Papua New Guinea in the first match on 17 June and then beating New Caledonia 2-1 in Numa-Daly Magenta Stadium on last Wednesday.

The results will be analysed by Kim Swee as the input will be useful for him to ensure better consistency from his squad. According to him, the players have to recognise and overcome their weaknesses to prepare for the upcoming 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup and the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

“In the three matches that we played in the tour, I have used all of the available players and it has given me the chance to assess their strengths and weaknesses.”

“It was obvious that our objective was to win all of the games, but I’m satisfied with the final outcome.”

“This will give me some thinking to do before I recall them on next September,” said Kim Swee after the conclusion of the match against Fiji yesterday.
