Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) will travel to Hong Kong on September 13 to face 41-time First Division League champions South China at the Mong Kok Stadium in the quarter-final of the AFC Cup before playing in the return leg at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru a week later.
The two sides also met during the quarter-final of last year’s edition of the AFC Cup, which saw both teams sharing the spoils in the first leg match at the Larkin Stadium after it ended 1-1, with both goals from Luciano Figueroa and Mahama Awal coming in the second half.
The Southern Tigers then defeated The Shaolin Temple 3-1 at the Mong Kok Stadium through a brace from Safee Sali and a goal from Mahali Jasuli to win the tie 4-2 on aggregate.
Johor Darul Ta’azim topped Group H in the AFC Cup after winning all six matches against the likes of Bengaluru FC, Ayeyawady United and Lao Toyota FC, whereas South China finished behind Mohun Bagan in Group G and ahead of Yangon United and Maziya S&RC.
The AFC Cup draw was held at PJ Hilton at 3pm today.
